Is This Hotel On Skis the Coolest Way to See the Northern Lights?
See the Aurora Borealis like never before in this new, mobile hotel in Northern Finland
đ¨How crazy is thisâYou can now stay in a hotel on skis in Northern Finland for optimal viewing of the Aurora Borealis. The mobile cabin features a see-through roof, a wide bed for sky gazing, a gas stove, a gas heater, a toilet (hurrah!) and a pair of snowshoes for exploring the arctic tundra.
The cabins on skis allow guests to completely escape from the modern world and be immersed in Lapland's stark wilderness as they hunt for the Northern Lights from their bed. Three mobile cabins are presently available for bookings, and each comfortably sleeps two people. Bookings for this season are available through mid-April and again in January 2019 via adventure travel specialist Off the Map Travel.
The mobile cabins are currently located approximately four miles east of Kilpisjärvi, Finland, where the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are strong. Once the winter ice has thawed, the cabins on skis will be relocated to a new home for the following season.
"The wilderness surrounding Kilpisjärvi is known for its remote and uninterrupted Arctic tundra," said Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel. "Away from any manmade light pollution, it is here that that the wilderness camp is placed for the winter, giving guests the best possible opportunity to experience the Northern Lights and simply enjoy the silence of the Arctic plains."
